In our classroom

At Greenacre Public School, HPGE lives in everyday practice. We challenge our students to think, create, lead and grow every day.

  • Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students.
  • Teachers regularly use diagnostic assessments, observation checklists, and student self-assessments to identify strengths and areas for growth across multiple domains, providing timely data that informs lesson planning and differentiation to promote continuous student growth and engagement.
  • Learning activities are designed with varying complexity, allowing students to work individually, in pairs, or flexible groups based on interests or abilities, ensuring appropriate challenge, fostering collaboration, leadership, motivation, and social skills.
  • Teachers explicitly communicate high expectations by designing learning objectives that foster higher-order thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, encouraging students to set personal goals and reflect on their progress, which promotes a growth mindset, resilience, and self-efficacy, leading to deeper learning and higher achievement.

Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.

  • The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration
  • Students participate in opportunities such as Maths Olympiad, Maths Games, Premier’s Multicultural Public Speaking, Premiers Debating Challenge, Tournament of Minds (TOM)
  • Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries,
Our school provides a wide range of academic opportunities designed to challenge and inspire students across diverse subject areas. A fantastic example of this is our inaugural poetry slam, where yesterday our Stage 3 students took the mic and blew us away with their original slam poems exploring powerful themes of identity and bullying. With courage, creativity, and heart, they performed their work in front of the school community and special guests, showcasing their developing skills in writing, critical thinking, and public speaking. Events like these reflect our commitment to fostering academic excellence and providing platforms for students to express themselves, engage deeply with important issues, and build confidence in their talents.
At our school, students have a wealth of opportunities to participate and excel in a wide range of sports, including football, Newcombe ball, basketball, soccer, Oz tag, cricket, and more. We encourage all students to engage in our vibrant sporting programs, which not only promote physical health and teamwork but also provide pathways for talented athletes to showcase their skills at school, district, and state levels. For our high potential and gifted students, these opportunities are especially valuable, allowing them to develop their abilities through competitive events and representative competitions. Our commitment to nurturing sporting excellence ensures that every student can strive for personal bests and, where appropriate, pursue higher honours in their chosen sport.
Our school is proud to celebrate and embrace the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal students through meaningful experiences and events such as the Bunmarra Corroboree, NAIDOC Day, and multicultural celebrations. These occasions provide all students with the opportunity to learn about and respect Aboriginal histories, traditions, and cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and connection within our diverse community. Through participation in these culturally significant events, Aboriginal students are supported to share their stories and heritage, while the wider school community gains valuable insights that promote reconciliation, inclusion, and respect for Indigenous cultures.
Our school offers excellent opportunities for students to develop their public speaking and debating skills through a variety of programs and competitions. From classroom activities to school-wide events, students can build confidence, critical thinking, and effective communication abilities. Talented and gifted students are encouraged to participate in district, regional, and state-level debating competitions, where they can challenge themselves and represent our school with pride. These experiences not only enhance students’ presentation and argumentation skills but also foster leadership and resilience, preparing them for success both academically and in their future careers.
Our school is committed to nurturing high potential and gifted students in the arts through enriching programs and opportunities. Select Year 5 and 6 students recently had the incredible chance to participate in the Artist in Me program at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where they deepened their understanding of visual storytelling and creative expression. Alongside this, our Art Club offers a supportive environment at lunchtimes for students to explore their creativity, experiment with different techniques, and develop their unique artistic voices. These experiences ensure that our talented young artists are challenged, inspired, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
