Learning
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Why choose us for your child’s learning?

Explicit Teaching
At our school, we believe that every child learns best when teaching is clear, structured, and purposeful. We use explicit teaching to break down concepts into small, manageable steps. Teachers model new skills, guide students as they practise, and then provide opportunities for students to apply their learning independently. This approach ensures that all learners know exactly what success looks like and feel confident in achieving it.
To build strong foundations in literacy, every class begins with reading and writing warm-ups. These short, daily routines sharpen essential skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, and grammar. They also encourage students to write with confidence and fluency. By revisiting key skills in a consistent way, warm-ups help students to make connections, retain knowledge, and develop a love of reading and writing.
Through explicit teaching and engaging warm-ups, we are committed to setting students up for success in their learning journey.

Sport
We offer a range of sporting opportunities and students are encouraged to try out school sporting teams and play against other schools in the primary school sports association gala days. These sports include but are not limited to netball, newcombeball, basketball, soccer, cricket, touch football and league tag.

Wellbeing Programs
At our school, we believe that learning is about more than academics – it’s also about building strong character, resilience, and wellbeing. That’s why all students across the school learn about character strengths and take part in the Toolbox Program. These lessons help children recognise their own strengths, celebrate the strengths of others, and practise important life skills such as kindness, teamwork, gratitude, perseverance, and respect.
For our Stage 3 students, we take this learning further through the HAT (Here’s A Thought) Program. This program encourages older students to think more deeply about their choices, understand different perspectives, and apply their character strengths in more complex, real-world situations.

Quality Teaching and Learning Programs
At our school, we are committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs that are purposeful, engaging, and relevant to every student. Using backward mapping, teachers design units by first identifying the key outcomes and skills students need to achieve, then carefully planning the learning experiences that will lead them there.
Student voice and interest play a central role in shaping our programs. By connecting curriculum outcomes with what excites and motivates students, we ensure learning is both rigorous and meaningful. For example, a recent Stage 3 unit on slam poetry combined English outcomes with students’ passion for performance and creativity. This program not only deepened students’ understanding of poetic devices and language features but also led to our first annual Slam Poetry Showcase, where students proudly performed their original works for the school community.
What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.

High potential and gifted education
Greenacre PS has one DoE opportunity class catering for highly achieving Year 5 and Year 6 academically gifted students. This class helps high potential students to learn by grouping them with other high potential students and using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.
Students need to apply to be placed in an opportunity class and the NSW DoE’s High Performing Students Team administers the opportunity class placement process. Students who are placed attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6 at the primary school with an opportunity class. It is a two-year placement program.

Student Leadership
At our school, we believe every student’s voice matters. Our Student Representative Council (SRC) gives students the chance to take on leadership roles and make a positive difference in our school community.
Elected by their classmates, SRC members meet regularly to share ideas, discuss important issues, and help organise events and initiatives that make our school a better place for everyone. Through this role, students develop skills in communication, teamwork, and responsibility, while learning the importance of representing others and leading with respect.

Public Speaking
Greenacre Public School’s Public Speaking co-curricular program empowers students to become confident and articulate communicators. Through regular practice, students develop skills in presenting, argumentation, and persuasive speaking, which boost their confidence and ability to think critically.

Debating
Greenacre Public School's debating co-curricular program provides students with an exceptional opportunity to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills. By participating in debates, students learn to express their ideas clearly and persuasively, while also honing their ability to listen, analyze, and respond to opposing viewpoints. This program not only boosts their confidence but also encourages them to engage with complex issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the world around them. The skills gained through debating are invaluable, empowering students for future academic and professional success.
Respect Program
RESPECT is a music program for boys in Years 5 & 6, teaching them about domestic violence and gender equality, with a view to prevent and reduce domestic violence in the future. Over 12 weeks, the boys write, record and perform an original song, and also become active agents of social change and role models in their schools. The program is facilitated by men who are also professional musicians, working alongside Family Violence counsellors. The learning style emphasises open discussion, allowing participants to solidify their learning about acceptable behaviour in relationships. 2024 RESPECT Video - Greenacre PS

Drumming Program
Our Arabic drumming group offers students a vibrant and energetic way to connect with music and culture while developing rhythm, coordination, and teamwork skills. Through learning traditional drumming patterns and performing together, students build focus, discipline, and confidence. The program encourages creativity and self-expression while celebrating cultural diversity and fostering a strong sense of belonging.

Dance
Our dance program offers students a creative outlet to express themselves while enhancing their physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork skills. Through various styles of dance, students build confidence, discipline, and resilience as they work together to learn choreography and perform in front of an audience. The program encourages creativity and self-expression while fostering a sense of accomplishment and community. By participating, students gain valuable skills that contribute to their overall development, both personally and academically.

Choir
Our choir program provides students with a powerful way to express themselves through music while developing vocal technique, confidence, and teamwork skills. By exploring a wide range of songs and harmonies, students strengthen their musical abilities, discipline, and perseverance as they prepare for performances. The program nurtures creativity and self-expression while fostering a sense of pride and belonging within the group. Through choir, students gain valuable skills that support their personal growth and academic success, all while sharing the joy of music with the school and wider community.
