Wellbeing

The purpose of wellbeing at Greenacre PS is for all students to get what they need in order to learn to the best of their ability. Our culture of wellbeing is reflected through an overarching framework that outlines our fundamental beliefs, values and behaviours.

How we support student wellbeing

Fundamental beliefs and assumptions

At Greenacre PS we hold four fundamental beliefs and assumptions:

  1. When the adult changes everything changes
  2. Everyone can learn and improve
  3. Every student has their own story
  4. Everyone has the right to be heard

Values

At Greenacre Public School, our staff share a strong belief in doing what is right, fair, and respectful in every aspect of our work. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student is valued and encouraged to thrive. We bring these beliefs to life through our shared values, which guide the way we teach, learn, and work together every day:

Toolbox Project

Greenacre PS is in partnership with The Toolbox Project - a SEL project that supports students to use skills and 'tools' they have within themselves. The Toolbox curriculum teaches 12 simple yet powerful “tools.” With practice, these tools become important personal and social skills. Students build self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills and responsible decision making. The common language and Toolbox methods help them quickly adopt the tools and use them effectively. The 12 tools are:

Character Strengths

Character strengths such as kindness, perseverance, teamwork, fairness, gratitude, and curiosity are central to how we support students’ growth and wellbeing at our school. We explicitly teach and model these strengths so that every child learns to recognise their own unique qualities and appreciate the positive traits in others.

Through our partnership with The Wellbeing Distillery, we are building a consistent and whole-school approach to teaching character strengths. By focusing on character strengths, students develop resilience, confidence, and the ability to approach challenges with a positive mindset. They also learn to build strong relationships, value diversity, and contribute positively to their classroom and the wider school community.

Character strengths are woven into all aspects of teaching and learning – from lessons and morning circle discussions to sport, the arts, and social interactions.
